Firstly due to unforseen circumstances we have had to postpone "Off Your Facebook" on the 21st of April. We will through be rescheduling and let everyone who had enrolled know as soon as this is confirmed.

This is a shame as it had generated alot of interest and alot of people were looking forward to it.

Currently we are working with UVA in London on their "Speed Of Light" installation as part of Virgin Medias 10 year celebration of Fibre Optics. We are providing the event management service for the 12 days that the event runs as well as training for the stewards who will be working on the event. Karen is in London again for three weeks and I just left her on the phone as she ran off to deal with the fire alarm....mm

Continuing with all things southern as well as the imminent approach of the Celebrating Surrey Event (www.celebratingsurrey.org.uk) on the weekend of the 26th & 27th of June we are working with them to deliver a large outdoor concert on the Friday (25th June) as an opening to the weekend. The breadth of the programme is amazing with over 4,000 participants and a weekend audience of over 15,000 anticipated, things like a giant pod made from bookshelves for storytelling (right) - Oh and Black Elks direct descendant will be performing part of the spoken word element of the Citizens Advice Bureau's 70 year anniversary commission.....

As well as regular trips to Guilford we can now add Hampshire to our list as we are now the consultants to their 2012 Cultural Olympiad programme. Taking place on five outdoor sites over a 12 day period in 2012 thier ambition and vision is to be applauded and we can't wait to make a start on it.

We are continuing our work with the Youth Music Mentoring scheme over the next three months around the UK after being awarded an further contract by Youth Music to deliver the training.

Now off to Liverpool for a site visit as well as a quick drink at the PRSF event for their wards for their New Music Plus" (Producers Partnership) CDH was one of the nominators of the scheme and are pleased (and proud) that Kyrsko (Matthew to his friends) was a successful candidate. He's working with the Whitworth Gallery and taking them to places they've (And I suspect he) has never been. Bandstands, Gramaphone's, Boating Ponds its all in the mix.

New Year

Into 2010 and this is the first blog of the year for us. Met up with a social media expert who immediately told me off for not updating our blog since October. So if your reading this .....

(Left - CDH papercut by Julene Harrison) Firstly we've moved office ... In the same building but now have our own dedicated space which is great.

All contact details remain the same though - we thought we'd make it easy for you.

In November we delivered the Soup Collectives 10 year retrospective at Islington mill, a lovely intimate event showing the amazing work they have done over the past decade. Oh and Elbow played, amazing to see such a huge band in such small surroundings. They were if course amazing but they played their part to perfection by being part of the event rather than the event itself.

The following day it was Salford Lads Club for the performance by Rawchestra, (www.rawchestra.org.uk) led by Joe Botham, of 'Dirty Old Town' based on the song of the same name by Ewan MacColl. BBC philharmonic players with young musicians from Salford played four original pieces to an accompanying film in the historic surroundings of the club.

The atmosphere was great and the performance full if energy and vitality. Sound provided by Massive Tech (www.massivetech.co.uk) was fantastic in challenging circumstances (25 musicians, mc's, strings, brass, kit, dj and a very live room)

The welcome from the lads club was wonderful and our first real foray into concieving, producing and delivering projects was a great sucess.

To commemorate the event we had 100 limited edition posters designed, signed and screen printed by the marvellous gig poster artist Nick Rhodes (www.switchopen.com)

Eventually, eventually the Fourth Plinth project, Antony Gormleys "One and Other" has finished 100 days, 24 hours a day, 2400 plinthers now can we have Karen and Paula back? They have had to deal with everything from ill grandmas to smuggled chickens over the course of the project but it's over...

An onwards with the the Youth Music Mentoring training days for Project Co-ordinators in London on the 21st and 22nd of October, Soup Collectives 10th Anniversary Retrospective on the 21st of Nov @ Islington Mill, Final performance of "Dirty Old Town" @ Salford Lads Club on the 22nd Nov, "Managing Creative Teams" in London for Sound Connections on the 24th of Nov as well as the Advanced Mentoring Training on the 25th and 26th of Nov also in London. Also during this period all the preparations are taking place for "Celebrating Surrey" 2010.

CDH PRSF North West Nominators

CDH Creatives have been asked to be one of the North Wests nominators for the Performing Rights Society Foundations " New Music Plus" (Producers Partnership). The scheme supports the creative and professional development of emerging producers and organisations that want to strengthen and diversify their approach to programming new music.

We were asked to nominate two emerging producers (Producers being those who deliver musical events in the broadest sense) a tough choice. Finally we put forward Krysko - see pic left (www.myspace.com/kryskodj) and Joe Botham of Push Music - see pic right (www.push-music.co.uk)

Very different from each other musically and what they are doing but equally interesting and deserving. More than anything they reflect the wide range of networks that CDH operates in.

Anyway fingers crossed and lets hope they are successful.

Sept / P4P / One & Other / Dirty Old Town / Surrey Celebrates

CDH has had a busy time of it this summer with Paula and Karen going straight off to work on Antony Gormleys "One & Other" the day after "Procession", Sam & Chui have been working with MCH Consultants on delivering the Youth Music Mentors "Psychology and Techniques" training in Leeds, Birmingham and London. Meanwhile Dolan has time has been taken up on XTRAX and Decibels three day showcase for street arts in Manchester, Platform 4 Piccadilly.

"One & Other" finishes on the 14th of October, 100 days from it's start. We liked the man dressed in a white boiler suit and white wolf mask who danced in character for 1 hour to Daft Punk, Wagner and Pink acting out what looked like the wolfs demise as it was hunted and then ressurected by Peaches "**** the Pain Away". Marvelous.

The last Psychologies & techniques" training is on the 21st & 22nd of October. There are then two more training days for the "Senior Mentors" led by Peter Renshaw in November followed by networking days in January & February 2010.

The 'Dirty Old Town" project is now underway which is an exciting new youth project for the Salford Film Festival combing live music and film. This is produced by CDH Creatives working with the BBC Philharmonic, Rawchestra, CRIS and GMMAZ to create a new orchestra made up of a combination of traditional orchestral instrumentalists, drummers and percussionists, guitarists, keyboard players, singers and any body else that turns up, and create a totally new performance repertoire in response to young peoples films and vision of Salford.

Taking one of Salfords most famous sons Ewan MacColl iconic song“Dirty Old Town” written in 1949 about Salford itself and its industrial landscape. Like much of todays music it is a social commentary and will act as a staring point for a new cinematic orchestra to create the soundtrack to contemporary moving images of Salford that will be created by young people about the city.

the final piece will be performed live at a TBC venue in sync with the final edit of the film on the 22nd of November 2009.

Finally CDH have been selected to deliver a large three day event for Surrey CC in June 2010 at Losely Park.

This will include a large main stage and classical concert as well as featuring the best of Surreys creative scene from crafts to digital technology over two days on the 26th and 27th of June 2010.

July / Procession / One and Another

"Procession" is over and seems to have been a great success. The media, particularly around the unrepentant smokers, had been negative about the event before hand and there was a sense that perhaps Jeremy Deller was 'taking the piss'. However the big crowd and their response proved that the public were a lot more sophisticated in their attitude than the critics.

As John Robb pointed out we're not so insecure as to not to be able to laugh at ourselves. The bloke in the pink suit on the culture show (do you get a media career because you wear a pink suit?) got it completely wrong. The cliche of Manchester is of the defiant North the true picture is of a confident city with a diverse culture and one of humor.

Anyway we enjoyed doing the event hugely, the making space boys, my undefeated run at table tennis, the great weather and for such a logistically fiddly event it all went extremely smoothly. Lots of images and photos on www.manchesterprocession.com

A day later on the 7th of July and Karen and Paula are straight off to London to start work on 'One and Another", www.oneandanother.co.uk Anthony Gormleys marathon piece of conceptual art. They will be ther until mid October so it's along haul.

We have taken on an administrator Chui Chu who is working with me on organising the company (eventually) as well as helping with the Youth Music Mentors programme. This coming week on the 23rd of July we will have events in MCR (Best Of Manchester Awards), Birmingham (Voltage Volunteer Event) and London (One and Another) simultaneously which is a big development for us. The rest of the week we are delivering two traiing days in Leeds with MCH Consulting on Psychologies and Techniques of mentoring and the same but for four days in London the following week.

We have also started work on Platform Piccadilly for XTRAX which is on the 18th, 19th and 20th of September as well as working with the Salford Film Festival.

So we are now six weeks off the "Procession" event with Jeremy Deller as part of the Manchester International Festival and things are starting to hot up. It's not a technically challenging event but a very logistically challenging one. Anyway its starting to shape up nicely and should be a great event.

We have also recently been in discussions about managing the artist Anthony Gormleys One and Other project in Trafalger Square. 100 days, 24 hours a day and a different performer every hour on the famous Fourth Plinth opposite the National Portrait Gallery. . . . we seem to be getting a reputation for working with artists and public performances....coincidence probably. Anyway watch this space.

Finally a special mention to the Hungry Pidgeon event that I managed this weekend in Piccadilly Gardens featuring Kid British and The Travelling Band. Great day and great event and proving, with the right event, you can have beer and people in Piccadilly Gardens Manchester without a riot, well done everyone involved.

Manchester International Festival

Well we can announce this now but the element of the festival CDH Creatives will be working on is called "Procession" directed by turner prize winning artist Jeremy Deller www.jeremydeller.org - scheduled to take place at 2.00pm on July the 5th 09' down Deansgate central Manchester the Procession features unrepentant smokers, fully functioning cafes and permenant rain amoungst many other suprisiing features.

‘I love processions – as humans, it’s almost part of our DNA to be instinctively attracted to big public events that bring us together. A good procession is in itself a public artwork: part self-portrait and part alternative reality.’

Jeremy Deller’s past projects have included Acid Brass, a collaboration with Stockport’s Williams Fairey Brass Band that linked acid house with brass band culture; The Battle of Orgreave, a 1,000-person re-enactment of the notorious 1984 battle between police and pickets during the miners’ strike; and Folk Archive, an exhibition that investigates British vernacular art.

To accompany Procession, there will be a major exhibition at Cornerhouse.

2009 New Year

So the beginning of a new year and all seems to be credit crunch doom and gloom. For us things seem to be good at the moment. We have the Participate Conference coming up in Leicester on the 24th of Feb as well as beginning work for Manchester International Festival (www.mif.co.uk) on a parade with the artist Jeremy Deller.

We are also currently in discussions regarding the management of the Clan Pagent in Edinburgh for the end of July which should be amazing if it all comes off.

More news to follow when it comes in.....................in the meantime heres a picture of my new daughter just a day old. All together now ahhh...

WINTER 08'

We are all just recovering from Portrait Of A Nation in Liverpool last week which was a big success, although Karens words were "never again!" 500 young people in St Georges Hall over three days and not a moment to spare. All the team who worked on it from production to creative were great and a joy to work with.

Special mentions to Ben, Kathy and Laura the Show Caller who went that bit further than anyone else to make it all happen.

Next up for us is the Participate Conference in the East Midlands in February as well as the on going Music Mentoring Training for Youth Music.

Chistmas Party next, hope fully Sam will behave this time........

PORTRAIT OF A NATION

We have just started the real work on Portrait Of A Nation in Liverpool where CDH will be delivering all the Stage and people management for the 17 city event held in St Georges Hall Liverpool as part of the Capital Of Culture.

Its a huge undertaking which as well as hosting 500 young people and their work also culminates in a large scale indoor performance inside the hall on the 2nd of January.

LA MACHINE

We have just finished on working on "LA MACHINE", the giant spider in Liverpool that captured headlines everywhere. This was a last minute booking with Karen having to come in only a few days beforehand to co-ordinate the musicians who accompanied The Empress on her journey. The response as you will have seen was amazing and it was an honour for CDH to work on such a prestigious and innovative project.

"Portrait of a Nation" is next up making it our fourth piece of work as part of the Capital Of Culture.

The others have been the Stage Management for the Peoples Launch at St Georges Hall in January and in May the Garston Glorious Artistic Revolution (Seen here on the left) commissioned by the Biennial and delivered by the strange and wonderful Pop Empires.

We have just won the contract from Youth Music to deliver their National Music Mentors Programme over the next six months.

We are delivering a module too Londons Sound Connections on managing creative teams as well as preparing for the challenge of managing "Portrait Of A Nation" in Liverpool at the end of November / start of December.

In between times we have the stage management and co-ordination of a Gospel Concert "Real Life, Real Soul, Real Gospel' at Manchester Cathedral.

Finally we completed the build for the 2008 Manchester Food & Drink Festival. Tipis look amazing and are particularly cosy when the fire is on......now we just have to work out how we get it all out again!

MANCHESTER FOOD & DRINK FESTIVAL

We are now working On The Manchester Food & Drink Festival 2008 Pavillion (3rd - 13th of October) based at Spinningfields, the new business district.

We have brought in Haka Norwegien Tipis into MCR centre for the first time as structure to host the Dine & Event parts of the event.

The whole thing is a big challenge on such as small and tight site with no working facilities.

Highlights will be Johnny Bramwells set on Friday the 3rd as well as meals by Michel Roux and Fergus Henderson. There are also demos from a range of top chefs as well as a host of talks, from Jay Rayner through to attempts on the world record for the most number of cocktails.
